Plans to make Reddish North Station accessible approved

Network Rail has submitted plans to partially redevelop Reddish North Station to make it more accessible. The formal plans come nearly two years after Network Rail said they would address issues faced by disabled passengers – described at the time as "a generational thing" by local disability access campaigner Nathaniel Yates.

Council budget to see rising costs for social housing residents in Stockport

Rises in rent and service charge in social housing are to be expected, Stockport Council has said. 

In the council's Housing Cabinet held on Wednesday (11 February), councillors confirmed that people renting social housing would see a 4.8 percent increase in rent, and those renting shared ownership properties would see an increase of 5 percent.

New art exhibition opens in Stockport

A new exhibition has launched this February to place a spotlight on young people's mental health. 

Blending fine art, textiles, sculpture, and photography, the FELT exhibition showcases the work of 22 artists aged between 18 and 30, inspired by their lived experience of mental ill health.

Plans for Offerton Asda rejected

Controversial plans for a new Asda Express in Offerton have been rejected by Stockport Council. 

Original plans for the site, on the corner of Chippenham Avenue and Marple Road, would have seen the demolition of a car repair and MOT garage to make space for the store.

Two men sentenced after Cheadle Hulme bin room attack

Two men have been sentenced after fracturing a man's skull in Cheadle Hulme. 

Mohmand Ahmadyar-Khan, a concierge at the Fabrick apartment complex in Cheadle Hulme, was attacked after he went to challenge three men thought to be taking balloons in the bin room. 

He asked the men to leave after complaints from residents, but Minshull Street Crown Court heard they quickly became aggressive.

Stockport Homes has said it will launch an independent investigation into fire safety following complaints over safety issues made last year. 

The Building Safety Regulator (BSR) issued a compliance order to the provider in October, as residents of Hanover Towers, Lancashire Hill, said they were 'absolutely terrified' by living conditions.

Hazel Grove residents are being asked for their views ahead of plans to build new homes in the area.
Up to 175 new homes are hoped to be built on the land off Mill Street, behind Sainsbury's, with a full planning application expected to be submitted later this year.

Stockport left ‘begging for scraps’ for government aid in New Year’s floods, council says

The leader of Stockport Council has said he thinks Stockport may have received government aid after last year's New Year's floods if it were located in the South. 
Councillor Mark Roberts made the comment in a Cabinet meeting last night (10 February), in which councillors approved an investigation into severe flooding in Stockport last January. 
The 24-hour deluge was declared a major incident, with hundreds of people evacuated from their homes as roads became submerged across the borough.
